Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Ski Gear

We hear the phrase “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” often, but continue to purchase new ski equipment, boots, and apparel when we have an oasis of secondhand goods to select from. I must admit I am also a shopaholic when it comes to fashion.
I feel the overwhelming urge to shop for new products. I understand that sixth sense clawing at your stomach, telling you how much you need new items.
Ski apparel is heavily discounted before and after major holidays and in the autumn. Ski apparel is always discounted at tent sales where secondhand goods are sold. Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, GearTrade, SidelineSwap, REI, ThredUp, Sportiva Ski Outlet, Buckmans, Big Bear Gear, Woodbridge Ski, High Country Ski and Tennis, Worn Wear Patagonia, and family-owned ski shops often sell used ski apparel and equipment at a better price for your wallet.
Fashion is a sector where waste is undeniably part of the process. Annually, the United States throws away 34 billion pounds of textile waste. Textiles take over 200 years to decompose in landfills. Synthetic fibers remain in our environment forever as they cannot decompose! The production of synthetic fibers squanders 98 million tons of oil internationally each year.
When purchasing ski clothes, look for wool, alpaca, Goretex fabric, and similar content because they will last longer. The quality of wool clothing retains its versatility. Goretex is a durable and waterproof manmade fabric, making it a popular ski jacket choice for consumers.
The idea is to reuse the ski apparel you already have in the closet and purchase lightly used items to protect the planet. If you must buy new merchandise, look for items that can be worn for years. Sell or donate used apparel to trusted stores or with a mobile app.
Ski gear is expensive. Buying secondhand will save some coin, reduce waste, and conserve textiles. The best time of the year to purchase new gear is in the autumn, during the Black Friday sale.
If you bought used gear this winter, post it on Instagram and tag me @essieelleneffy or #elleneffysu in your caption. Kudos to you for taking care of our habitat.
